We’ve all heard the phrase, “live your best life”. I love this sentiment, so I wanted to piggy back off of that and help turn this saying into something actionable. Here are 5 healthy habits I’ve picked up, and I must share with you how life-changing it has been. They say it takes 3-4 weeks to make a habit stick, so let’s take these steps together into a happier, healthier, and more productive life!
You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine. – Darren Hardy
The key to success is taking action consistently and that’s why cultivating good habits and practicing them daily makes a huge impact!
1. Morning dose of Active Gratitude
Gratitude in simple words means counting your blessings, appreciating the simple pleasures and appreciating everything you have. Take a moment before you start your day to be intentionally grateful to things in your life.
Write down 3 things you are grateful for in a notebook, this can be from simplest things such as having your favorite ice cream to biggest accomplishments or things in your life. Initially, this takes a little bit of thinking but as you start the doing this every day, you will find yourself looking for things during the day that you are grateful for. So the biggest benefit of this exercise is that not only you start your day with a positive outlook but you also subconsciously carry this positivity throughout the day.
Gratitude is a way for us to appreciate our blessings in life and lessen out feelings of constantly failing or shortchanging ourselves. A step towards reducing the stress!
2 Intentional Eating
“Food is sustenance and fuel to be used wisely and not taken for granted or abused”
How’s your relation with food? With our minds occupied with so many things, many times we eat without thinking!
Do you know that our mind plays a big role in improving the digestion and assimilation of nutrients? When we eat mindfully, all our senses work together to process the information we are taking in – the touch, sound, smell and the taste along with the actual food!
Blessing your food before eating with a prayer is one way to calm the mind and focus on eating so it becomes an act of mindful eating.
I have started checking in with myself before eating anything. Surprisingly, such a small habit has helped me immensely with so many things – reduced bloating to weight loss to feeling more energetic and improving my hydration. Yes, there were times when I was reaching for food when I was not hungry but instead thirsty.
Taking an intentional moment before you eat to check in with yourself is a great habit to have!
3. Focus on one thing at a time = Distraction Free Zone
I take pride in being a pro multi-tasker. Juggling between a demanding job, momlife, cooking, blogging and taking care of myself – these are lot of things to be done. My secret is doing just one thing at a time and doing it with full attention.
Every day, I block my calendar for at least two hours kept aside where I create a “Distraction Free Power Hours” for myself. I turn off notifications on my phone. I also close all opened apps such as email, Instagram, Whatsapp on phone and on my laptop as well. And focus only on one thing without getting distracted.
Not being distracted and not doing context switching from one thing to another has been my secret of improving the productivity and achieving the results – and ensure I’m making progress on my to-do list or plan for that day.
This also reduces the mental fatigue in a huge way! I highly recommend this, if nothing else, at least start with this one habit from today!
4. Daily Dose of Essential Supplements
Over the years, it has become increasingly obvious to me how important it is to be proactive and treat your body well. As our lives are getting busier than ever, it’s becoming challenging to eat balanced meals every single day. And hence investing in good quality supplements has become essential for maintaining the vitality.
I’m extremely picky about supplements and there are only a select few that I take regularly because I try to make a conscious effort to get most of my nutrients from food. But there are some gaps that dies alone doesn’t always fill so that’s where I turn to Ayurvedic natural supplements.
Currently, I am taking these two supplements
- Triphala – Literally meaning “three fruits” in Sanskrit, it is a combination of three fruits, all native to the subcontinent of India. These fruits are, Amalaki, Bibhitaki and Haritaki. This simple combination of three potent fruits have been revered as an anti-aging medicine in classical texts such as Charak Samhita.
- Ashwagandha – It’s a powerful gift of nature and Ayurveda! From anxiety, depression to weight loss, immunity, body building .. this herb does it all and much more.
When it comes to Ayurvedic supplements, their origin and extraction process makes a huge difference. For this reason, I highly recommend TrueVeda’s Organic capsules – they are certified organic and contain 100% pure unadulterated extracts ensuring the quality and potency of these herbs. You can find more information about their process and other products here https://www.trueveda.com/range/
Another reason I love TrueVeda is I love their small family owned business vibe and the fact that they are also socially responsible company. TrueVeda supports many worthy charities including Akshay Patra in India.
5. Power Down one hour before bedtime
Many people has talked about benefits of unwiring and unwinding before going to bed. honestly speaking, this is still work in progress for me but I am working on this and taking steps that are forcing me to stay away from my phone.
A few simple things such as turning on airplane mode or keeping the phone outside your bedroom before sleeping can go a long way!
Now, go on out there and LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE.

Radhika
